[Movie Review] Limitless (2011)

by Daniel Chiam

Am on High 6/10

This movie is anything but logic and logic is dull. Neil Burger has every right to make the visual effect with such ecstatic flair. It's fresh and it brings out the best element for the movie.

It's not an epic movie but it's good enough to get you high and imagine what can you really do if you are able to get a 100% access to your brain.

Great performance by Bradley Cooper. You can really see the protagonist's transition from the beginning until the very end of the movie and Cooper is such a charmer. Then there's the legendary Robert De Niro, which he's presence itself already bring such a huge impression in the movie.

All in all, this sci-fi fantasy movie brings out the question if the possibility for such event to take place and what would one really do about it. Its fun to watch and it just wants to make you get high, haha.

[Movie Review] Just Go With It (2011)

by Daniel Chiam

Watchable 4/10

A romantic comedy which sets quite a predictable story line. Aniston and Sandler is pretty much comfortable in what they do best, and the movie is just like a walk in the park for them with not too much effort to try and make the movie really funny.

There was moment here and there that make you genuinely laugh, and you can't deny that the presence of Nicole Kidman does bring additional spice to the movie. It's been awhile since you last see the silly funny side of her in any movie.

Overall, its a typical Adam Sandler's movie. Great cast, great acting but it's always come short in delivering out the best of the movie as a whole, and when it involved kids, you'll see family value in there somewhere.

Not a movie to be wowed, but good enough to fill in a Saturday's night slot for a chillax moment with a little laughter and mushy feeling for the day.

Wall Climbing, Triumph!

I seriously think that I should write down Wall Climbing in my resume! Does it in any ways make me look like a hardworking man that will do and endure everything just to get to the top? Haha

I just wanted to personally thank Grace and Kay for giving me such an opportunity to be able to spread my wings and conquered my fear of height.

I do have to admit that I am not that scared of height anymore [(mind over matter) wahahaha ya right!] :D

Thanks for keep pushing and cheering me till I really reached the top. I almost gave up twice but Grace won't let me down, not until I really drag myself up that wall. Its really is a great sense of achievement once you tap your hand against the top wall. It's like you're finally conquering yourself for the first time.

Despite all the smells of shoes that you get from climbing, and muscles pain, and six packs that you thought suddenly came out of no where, I would love to go for another climb next time.

I'm seriously thinking about buying the shoes and finding a way to go there every weekend. Transportation is hard! Oh well, maybe I'll just do some push up of my own first (KONON LAH!) and when I have the chance then only I go there to be cocky again.

Haha, yes! I am very cocky after my first time reaching the top. As if I own the world :O

Hopefully I get to see all of you climbers again next time :D Thanks again Grace and Kay Kastum!

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

State Of The Arts (SOTA) KL

Dear visitor of room8five:

I have a statement to make and that is "SOTA ROCKS!"

It's a day filled with insights, curiosity and above all - talents. Finally Malaysian is being exposed to what many has been despise for so many years, and only now truly realize the true colors of creativity and arts.

The event started off with some of the well known Malaysian celebrities sharing their experience and knowledge about the entertainment industry in the country and what it really takes to make in Malaysia - not just for the money but most importantly for the expression of our true passion for creativity and arts.

Paul Moss (Media Prima's GM, OIAM's judge), Daphne Iking (actor, host), Audio Mok (producer, song writer), Niki Cheong (blogger, journalist) and the only guy who gets the standing ovation from the crowd, the one and only Harith Iskandar (comedian, director). They are all an amazing speaker and one of the thing that they have in common in their message for SOTA, is to follow your dream and let not others stop you from achieving it

No one understand more about your own talents than you yourself. If you have it then use it for a greater purpose. Along the way, yes someone will be a road block for you, but never let those road block stop you from becoming who you really are and what you really wanted to become.

Nothing happened by chances, you need to create your own 'luck' and you need to be smart enough to be 'lucky'. -Niki Cheong-

It was truly an awesome event that filled with laughter, especially with Daphne Iking and Harith Iskandar taking the stage. These people are being true to themselves, they are what they are on stage without putting on a mask. The truth is always the best comedy you can come up with and they did just that.

Later at the evening session they were having the 'State of Talents' competition where youngster will battle it out on stage to perform and to present the talents that they have to win the grand prize money of RM1500 cash.

It turns out to be more than just a battle, it was indeed a blast of creativity and talents on stage. The crowd was mesmerize and in awe when the contestant went on stage one by one. It was a remarkable showcase of talents from singing to dancing, poetry reading, musical instrument, skills and magic.

Malaysian got talents! -Vincent-

The competition was won by a 12 year old boy who perform an outstanding skills with his Chinese Yo-yo. The crowd goes wild when he executed his final move, where he spin and let the yo-yo to hang in mid-air without any strings attached and then snatch it back with his string just in time before the yo-yo could hit the ground. Its like seeing a flying saucer suddenly being snatch away in mid-air. Awesomeness.

All in all SOTA is indeed a great success, though there are still rooms for improvement but the main agenda for the event is greatly achieved this time. Everyone, especially Malaysian should realize that creativity, arts and talents is not meant to be a disgrace or despise for anyone. Its a true expression of who we really are, and it plays a great role in our life especially for the young people.

A person with talent should be allowed to spread their wings and fly accordingly to where their creativity brings them. Do not alter them or you will have a disfigured and non-functional person. Nurture their talents and they will in turn become some one great in life.

PS: I'm sorry for being unable to include pictures from SOTA. I will try to find the pictures from everywhere and post it for everyone to see what actually happened in SOTA KL.

Until next time, see you around my friend =)

I'm a Superstar... Sorta

Dear mom and dad:

Finally, I'm officially in Youtube! Haha, it was one of my dream to be able to act in a video and post it in Youtube (it was one of those hidden desire that I have). Thank you Eldy and Sheyvin for the given opportunity to act in your video.

They were doing a video to join the State Of The Arts video competition and they asked me and Pierre to help out. I'm like 'WHY NOT?!'. Haha. I am super happy though I felt that I can do better but I can foresee that there will be more videos to come :D

Its always great to have creative and talented friends around. I used to have a lot of creative things that I wanted to do, but somehow I always feel unmotivated to carry out those thoughts into actions.

After making this video, I felt that perhaps now is the right time to fulfill some of those things that I always wanted to do since last time.

I'm going to make sure Eldy will be busy when he's holiday arrived. Haha. Well fellow blogger friends, please do watch the video, rate and comment. I am open to any positive criticism, ideas and suggestion to help improve my acting in the future, haha. American Idol style!

I also attached a few pictures from the second day of our shooting :D Enjoy all.

Until next time, see you around my friend =)
